Ballroom dancing in Bishopswood
What a great afternoon we had in Bishopswood, Somerset last Sunday, our DanceTWExeter team went to a beautiful village on the Devon/Somerset border and took dancing to the villagers.
Thanks to our hosts Simon & Kathy Shovelton for getting together a great group of people who all wanted to have a taster session of Ballroom dancing.
It was a lovely hot day and some would be sunning themselves in the garden but not Bishopswood, the sunny weather didn't stop anyone Jiving, doing the Cha Cha and Waltzing around the spacious and lovely Village Hall. The village is really lucky to have a great modern hall which boasts a sprung floor! (Almost like Blackpool!)
This was a great way for Dance TW Exeter to launch it's "Events" part of our tuition and it gave everyone a taster of Ballroom Dancing and what started out as a 4 dance taster soon got expanded as the requests came in.
We started with the Social Foxtrot which never fails to get new dancers moving around the floor in under 30 minutes - Bishopswood did it in approx 18 minutes! We then taught the basics in Cha Cha Cha, we soon saw some great hip action amongst the dancers. After a lovely tea and cake break we were asked to teach the Square Tango and this went down really well and soon everyone was going around the room to their first experience of Sequence Dancing.
We then went onto Waltz - quite a difficult dance with lots of steps but we did the very basic just to get everyone around the room to music, a few dancers even discovered they remembered some steps learnt from years gone by which proved we had given them the confidence to try to execute steps they sort of remembered.
As the session was going really well we wanted to step up the pace and try some Jive, not for everyone but nearly everyone did some basic rock and link steps, some got to "change of hands behind the back" and we could see that they were having fun with the steps.
To finish the afternoon we introduced a couple of party dances - the Party Paso and the Party Samba which the video below shows the Bishopswood village enjoying the Party Paso and Y Viva Espania!
Thank you Bishopswood for being such a great group of dancers and we hopefully proved to you that you can dance!!
We can't wait to come back!
